About Cats Protection League

Cats Protection rescues and re-homes unwanted and abandoned cats and promotes responsible cat ownership.

We work towards three key aims:

  • To rescue stray and unwanted cats and kittens, rehabilitate and re-home them where possible.

  • To encourage the neutering of all cats and kittens not required for breeding.

  • To inform the public about the care of cats and kittens.

Every year, Cats Protection provides a vital lifeline nationally, for 170,000 cats that need help.

** If you find an injured cat out of hours, please call your local vet who will operate a 24 hour service **

What help do we provide?

In the UK Cats Protection finds new and life-long homes for around 60,000 cats every year – an average of one re-homed every two minutes. Every cat that comes into our care stays with us until we find it a new home. We never put a cat to sleep unless advised to by a vet.

We also help tens of thousands of cats each year through our assisted neutering and veterinary treatment programmes. This involves contributing to the costs of treating cats whose owners are in dire financial need.

Who provides the help?

Our service is provided via a network of 30 Shelters (run directly by our Headquarters; some with paid staff) and 260 Branches (run by volunteers) throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

We are very grateful for the support of our volunteers - the backbone of the charity – who carry out 90% of the work.
